Stone Crab Season
Those succulent claws, brought to shore fresh daily from the waters surrounding the Florida Keys, will drip with mustard dip on the chins of hungry locals and visitors. A series of food festivals during the season celebrate the sustainable seafood resource throughout the Keys.

Long Key Squares presents: Tuesday Round and Square Dancing
For residents and visitors who simply want to enjoy dancing, the nonprofit Long Key Squares continues a 30-year tradition, where square dance attire is not required … but your attendance is desired! Held at Outdoor Resorts, mile marker 66, 65821 Overseas Highway, on Tuesday nights from 7-9:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Lessons are also held for both beginners and plus dancers on Sundays from 2-4 p.m.

“Tropical Impressions” Group Art Show
Eight local artists present their tropically-themed, original works for view and purchase in the main gallery of The Marathon Community Theater (MM 49.5, oceanside) during the production of “The Dixie Swim Club.” Art can be viewed and purchased before curtain and during intermissions each show date, including before a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Jan. 15. Open-gallery dates are also set between Jan. 19-28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun, with an artist to welcome guests. The ever-popular art raffle tickets are also to be available. All artwork in the gallery is open to the public to view and purchase.

Marathon Community Theater presents: Gordon Ross Cabaret

Music Video Festival
Conch Records presents a full two days of live music from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days at the Marathon Community Park amphitheater. Music videos of performing artists and bands are to be recorded and produced during the event. Admission is $5 per person each day, or free for individuals wearing an event t-shirt. Vendor booths are to have food and beverages available; clowns and face painting for the kids.

17th Annual Sculpture Key West
This stunning art exhibit showcases the work of leading contemporary sculptors at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park and the Key West Garden Club at West Martello Tower. Twenty-three contemporary sculptures and two performances are planned to enhance the land and seascapes around two historic Civil War-era forts. Among the projected highlights of the 2012/2013 exhibition are a steel and wood skeletal structure that is part animal, ship, airplane and sleigh, a massive monumental concrete relic of a shell from a world unknown, a mysterious array of manhole covers that seem to melt in the sun and the long awaited Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail Unicycle Tour! Artists in Paradise Gallery presents: VaEtta Baldwin
VeEtta Baldwin is the new window showcase artist, displaying her “Art in the Square” work in the front window of the Artists in Paradise Gallery in the Winn Dixie Plaza on Big Pine Key. There will be watercolors and scratch art on clayboard. More of VeEtta’s artwork is displayed on two separate walls inside the gallery which is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Stop in to browse several artwork pieces from Florida Keys artists.

31st Annual Key West Literary Seminar
The 2013 seminar includes two independent sessions (Jan. 10-13 & 17-20) exploring the theme “Writers on Writers.” Sessions spotlight the life and work of literary icons like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Emily Dickinson, John Cheever and Ernest Hemingway under the guidance of the contemporary writers and scholars who know them best. Writing workshops are scheduled Jan. 13-17.

South Florida Symphony presents: Natasha Paremski
A performance by Russian-born pianist Natasha Paremski is to highlight the South Florida Symphony’s Key West concert set for 8 p.m., titled “Epic Heroes and Their Goddesses,” the concert is part of the symphony’s 15th anniversary season and takes place at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road. Paremski is to display her keyboard mastery on Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The program also includes the symphonic poem “Macbeth” by Richard Strauss, “Pohjola’s Daughter, A Symphonic Fantasy” by Jean Sibelius and “Marche écossaise sur un thème populaire” by Claude Debussy. During the 31st Annual Key West Literary Seminar, enjoy the exhibit “Writers/Artists” at The Gallery on Greene St. The exhibit is scheduled to open with a Cafe con Leche/Cuban Guava pastry dessert after lunch at 1 p.m. on Saturday the 12th. Many of the living Key West Writers/Artists are to be in attendance, including Annie Dillard and Phyllis Rose, among others. Original works from the gallery’s collection will include Key West Pulitzer Prize Winners such as Tennessee Williams, Annie Dillard, Jeff MacNelly, Mike Peters and others.

Big Pine & the Lower Keys / January 12
Join a 5K/Walk & Run that benefits the Monroe County Domestic Abuse Shelter. The ninth annual race begins at 8 a.m., covers 3.1 miles and is based at the Old Wooden Bridge Guest Cottages & Marina on Big Pine Key. Advance registration $20, $25 day of event. A full and half iron distance triathlon in the southernmost city. Individuals and relay teams can participate in this USA Triathlon-sanctioned event. Impromptu Classical Concerts of Key West presents the Harlem Quartet
Located at at St. Paul’s Church on Duval Street, this event features the internationally known foursome that demonstrates its versatility on strings when the 4 p.m. performance begins with Mozart’s String Quartet No. 15, and is followed up with compositions by jazz legends like Chick Corea and Billy Strayhorn. Each of these artists has had fascinating solo careers, but in tandem they have traveled around the world, from New York to South Africa, where they toured and performed under the auspices of the U.S. State Department. Since debuting in 2006 at Carnegie Hall, the New York-based ensemble has held residencies and participated in foreign exchange programs; performed in chamber music series and festivals throughout the US and collaborated with distinguished musicians, such as violinist Itzhak Perlman, jazz greats Chick Corea and Gary Burton, as well as pianist Misha Dichter, with whom the Harlem Quartet will make a Kennedy Center debut shortly after its performance in Key West. Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center presents: Free Environmental Films Series
Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary invites the public to enjoy free environmentally-themed documentary films every Sunday through March 31, 2013 at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center in Key West. Each Sunday, doors to the center will open at 1 p.m. and sanctuary staff will show documentaries at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the center’s theater. These award-winning documentaries address environmental topics including climate change, marine debris, energy efficiency and resource protection. Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center is located at 35 East Quay Road, on the Truman Waterfront next to Fort Zachary Taylor State Park Today’s topics: 2 p.m. “YERT – Your Environmental Road Trip” (Media Changing Media, 113 minutes) and 4 p.m. “No Impact Man” (Oscillscope Laboratories, 93 minutes)
