A fun-filled variety of activities are available including snorkeling, parasailing, ocean kayaking and jet skiing. With small sandy beaches and bays dotting 120 miles along the Overseas Highway, your location choices are limitless.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
Established in 1963, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first undersea park created in the United States. The park, combined with the adjacent Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, encompasses 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove swamps. These areas were established to protect and preserve the only living coral reef in the continental United States.

Park hours: 8am - 5pm, 7 days a week

Marathon
Marathon and the surrounding areas offer several beach locations for fun filled days. Sombrero Beach, Anne's Beach, and several well maintained State Park Beaches will give you the unique water experiences of the Florida Keys. Many locations include marinas, watersport activities, hiking, snorkeling, diving and much more.

Sombrero Beach
With soft sands that expand into shallow bottom Atlantic waters, Sombrero Beach offers plenty of room for picnics, pet adventures, and a playground set against the ocean waves. Fun for the full day along with picnic gazebos, BBQ grills, free parking, no admission fees and clean restrooms.

Anne’s Beach
Anne's Beach features a shallow swimming area, covered picnic tables, boardwalk and bathroom facilities. Walk the boardwalk between the parking lots, and find 5 covered pavilions and secluded stretches of beach

Bahia Honda State Park
Offering some of the best beaches in the Florida Keys, Bahia Honda sands stretch along both the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Bay. Dig your toes in the sand and take part in sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking and boating tours.
Location: Bahia Honda Key between mile markers 36 and 37
Cost:
Admission: one person - $3.50, two people - $6.00; $.50 for each additional person. Pedestrians and bicyclists - $1.50 per person
Times Offered: Open daily 8AM - sunset. Concession Building is open 8AM - 5PM

Bahia Honda Marina
Nineteen slips in a protected basin (3 ½ foot controlling depth). Boat slips are available for overnight rental and include water, electricity, full use of park facilities (bath house, showers, trash disposal and pump-out). VHF Channel 16.
Cost: $2.00/ foot (minimum of $30.00)

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes in-water time
Activity Deposit Requirement: Required on all rentals. Reservations for all tours must be confirmed in person no later than one hour prior to tour tome.

Pigeon Key Historic Site
History comes alive on this 5-acre island. Tour the place that Henry Flagler called home during the building of his historical railroad. Located midway along the famous Seven Mile Bridge, Pigeon Key originally served as the base camp to more than 400 workers during the bridge's construction during the early 1900s. Climb aboard Pigeon Key's resident trolley "Henry" and venture out to the original 2.2 mile segment of the old Seven Mile Bridge and onto the island where the day can be spent snorkeling the coastline, exploring historic buildings or browsing through the museum.
Location: mile marker 48, 2 miles west of Marathon

Times Offered: Daily tours: 10 AM, 11:30 AM, 1 PM, 2:30 PM. (The last train departs the island at 4:00PM).

Long Key State Park
Encompassing nearly 1,000 acres of uplands and submerged lands, Long Key State Park boasts the best of the Florida Keys' subtropical climate with a variety of flora and fauna and plenty of wildlife who call it home. Three trails - two on land and one in the water - carve through the park and afford a big payoff in ways of mesmerizing ocean views. Birders also find welcome sights in the form of roseate spoonbills and snowy egrets as these migratory birds call rest in the park during winter and spring. Flats fishing for bonefish, permit and tarpon also lures in anglers from around the globe.

Curry Hammock State Park
Surrounded by shallow, protected waters, Curry Hammock State Park is home to large areas of mangrove swamp, rockland hammock and seagrass beds that are essential to the Florida Keys ecosystem. With these shallow tides abundant, the park offers some of the most scenic trails for kayaking and canoeing, including a mangrove creek and miles of pristine coastline on both the Florida Bay and Atlantic Ocean. (It is encouraged to bring your own equipment, however inquiries can be made at the ranger station about kayak rentals.) For those who seek their adventures on land, the park grants a moderately difficult1.5-mile trail through the hammock.
